Senior Developer DevOps Specialist

Aequilibrium (AEQ) is a digital consulting and implementation company (professional services) that partners with organizations to design and deliver modern technology solutions. We seek a Senior Developer to join our team for a 12-month client project, working alongside a talented group of engineers and delivery professionals to build and implement high-quality software solutions.
You will engage in an advisory, coaching, and mentoring role with a cross-functional team responsible for creating and maintaining fully automated DevOps development, testing, and production environments, including advising on and coaching in appropriate technologies and methodologies for application development, automated builds, and testing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides front-end web development using modern techniques, frameworks, and
versions (e.g., HTML5, modern CSS, CSS Modules, PostCSS, Tailwind CSS, Responsive Design).
2. Provides back-end web development using open‐source web programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Python, Flask, Node.js).
3. Uses modern development approaches and languages, including Vue 3, Nuxt 3/4, TypeScript, and contemporary build tools such as Vite.
4. Designs and implements RESTful web services and APIs following OpenAPI 3.x.
5. Engages in JavaScript and .NET development using modern standards and
modularization techniques.
6. Architects systems using microservices, containerization, GitOps/IaC, and
OpenShift‐native deployment patterns.
7. Builds multi‐tier web applications using modern programming languages.
8. Delivers continuous integration and automated deployment through GitHub Actions,
OpenShift and Google Cloud Pipelines.
9. Uses and works in scaled agile environments (e.g., Scrum, Lean).
10. Utilizes cloud hosting environments such as OpenShift 4.x and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
11. Provides database design, modelling, and development (PostgreSQL, Oracle).
12. Builds and maintains production‐equivalent staging environments through automated means.
13. Works with stakeholders to create user stories, wireframes, and backlog items.
14. Communicates technical concepts to a non‐technical audience.
15. Works collaboratively with designers and UX roles to meet user needs
APPROACH
You will work collaboratively within our client’s modernization program. This initiative replaces legacy registries systems with modern, scalable, secure digital services built using human‐centred design, modular architecture, and cloud‐native technologies deployed across both the Client's OpenShift 4.x Private Cloud and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
You will operate within cross-functional agile product teams comprising staff, including the Senior Product Manager, developers, UX/UI designers, business analysts, and change managers, to ensure strong alignment among business objectives, user needs, and technical implementation. You will report to the delegated Project Authority and participate in a scaled agile delivery model supporting multiple product streams.
The dynamic and iterative nature of registries modernization may require flexibility in sprint planning and cross‐team collaboration to accommodate the rapid evolution of product features, integration patterns, and platform capabilities.
ACTIVITIES AND DELIVERABLES
You will participate in the following activities, including but not limited to:
1. Agile Delivery & Cross‐Functional Collaboration
- Participating in daily stand‐ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives within integrated teams, including internal developers, designers, BAs, product management, and change management.
- Assessing the technical feasibility of user stories and advising on implementation strategies aligned to OpenShift and GCP capabilities.
- Collaborating with the Senior Product Manager to ensure sprint objectives align with product goals and customer value.
- Designing and developing cloud‐native services using Python/Flask, Node.js, Vue.js, TypeScript, Vite/Webpack, and related modern technologies.
- Developing backend services and APIs following OpenAPI 3.0, ensuring compatibility with provincial API gateways and secure integration patterns.
- Implementing event‐driven workflows using NATS Streaming for asynchronous interaction between registries services.
- Applying data modelling, schema design, and performance tuning for PostgreSQL (both on OpenShift and Cloud SQL on GCP), including integration with Solr for search capabilities.
- Working with the Senior Software Architect to align designs to domain‐driven architecture, cloud‐native standards, and enterprise integration practices.
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation, including architecture artifacts, API definitions, runbooks, deployment guides, CI/CD workflows, and testing documentation.
- Providing coaching and mentorship to internal staff on cloud-native development, DevOps practices, automated testing, containerization, OpenShift workflows, and GCP services.
KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER TO CLIENT
You will be responsible for providing structured and ongoing knowledge transfer to internal staff, enabling long-term sustainment of registries systems. Knowledge transfer activities will include:
1. Formal Knowledge Transfer
2. On‐the‐Job Coaching & Pairing
3. Documentation & Sustainment Materials

Compensation: $50 - $60 an hour
